  • Grew up in this church under pastor Cho for 20+ years. My most formative years as a Christian under his leadership. If you're looking for a church to become your family, to serve and be served, to grow in Christ-- this is the place for you! Please do not be intimidated by poor ratings by the few who have been angered enough to rant on the Internet.

Shame on the people who have demonstrated anything other than love for Christ and ALL his children in the midst of some church struggles through nasty reviews. All churches have internal struggle from time to time, we see it in scripture. I am his daughter, and I support my father wholly in all he does. I truly believe he leads and seeks counsel in the Lord in what he does.

If you know the story of Hanmaum, you will know that my father did not do it alone but through the hand of God. Bash the pastor all you want, but God does not use the perfect to lead the other perfect people. He uses the weak to lead the strong. And I hope that anyone who is in search of a church will find strength in the love of Christ that is so richly demonstrated in the way the members serve one another at Hanmaum. Pastors are human too, they are our brothers in Christ, and I challenge the people below to love all pastors like such.

Looks like someone like Rev. Cho or Deacon Kim really wants to get this review removed! Removing yet another.
    *End of update*

I love this church! And I'm still a member of the church, and praying for God's healing over the plague that is causing our people to stumble. I want to ask everyone who cares about this church to pray for what is happening at Hanmaum.

The people at Hanmaum Church are being deceived by two individuals: Rev. Jae Youn Cho (조재언목사) and Mr. Ethan Kim, an ordained deacon (김광수집사). It seems as though they are driven by different motivations, however, the conditions of these two men are equally disturbing. And both seems to act as if they are at the top of each other.

It's hard to find any truth coming out of Rev. Cho's mouth these days. This makes it very difficult for members like myself to focus on worship. When he is asked to explain what he said previously, he usually covers up his lies with more lies, or simply deny saying it. He constantly making bad stories about people who had left the church because of his negligence. I pray that he can be re-focused on Jesus Christ, and focused on taking good care of what is still left for his care.

Mr. Ethan Kim had been a member for a long time. He is rightfully credited for long years of his dedication to the church. He claims to make good decisions for the sake of the church, however, he is misleading Rev. Cho and other workers. Rather than praying, his prescribed ways are calculated, and too manipulative. He thinks that covering up for Rev. Cho's deceptions would save the church. I would call that compromising. When his proposal to install the personnel committee was not accepted by the members, you should have seen Mr. Kim's face. This guy is arrogant, and not fit to be a leader unless he repents and restores the love for the Lord.

The right thing to do is to seek help from the Lord if there are any truth left in these men. If they don't feel that they need to repent, they must seek professional help. I think they need to be treated for narcissistic personality disorder (NPD). And Rev. Cho should take a little break from the church if he is not considering to resign from the church.

Do not even consider the worthless review from Rev. Cho's daughter, JoAnna. She had been rejected from almost all education departments in the church because of her lack of faithfulness. Her laziness costs so many people hardship over the years. While she is enjoying the church, the church was suffering from her bullying teachers and other co-workers in Christ. Likewise, Rev. Cho definitely failed at raise his 2 other children. All three are as arrogant as their parents.

The review written by "Christ Follower" who gave the 5-star review is probably written by Rev. Cho's son or someone very close to Rev. Cho given that it is similar to the language that Rev. Cho often uses.

Please pray for my church. I'm suffering along with many of my brothers and sisters, but I know God will come through our prayers and help us to worship him without these corruptions.

  • Dear Austin Lee,
How long have you attended Hanmaum Church? Only a few months, not even 6 months yet? Am I correct? Considering the time you have experienced Pastor Cho, I feel like you have made too many bold, hasty and indiscreet statements in your review. Think about those brothers and sisters who have left our church recently. They have served our church for many years. Many of them have endured and served Hanmaum for 10+ years with real loving heart toward God and His people. I myself have been in Hanmaum for 8+ years. To tell you the truth, I know how you feel now because I experienced it. As you might have heard, this is not the first time happening and has been our ritual in every few years. What you have been seeing may be just the skin of him. Please wait a few more years and leave your review. Then you may be able to see what they are seeing. Until then, you better remain quiet like many others and pray instead.

  • In conclusion, I love Hanmaum Church! I grew up in one church for 25 years before I came to USA. Since I came to America, I have attended so many different churches under different denominations. I didn't like the fact that we had to jump one church to another so many times due to study, work, problem with fellow church leaders/members, etc. I now am very grateful for that because I had a chance to experience a lot of christians and leaders at church. I also heard and saw a lot. I can tell you that I found a church like home. Hanmaum Church. Even though I hear different stories, it does not really affect me. I know He is in control and I trust Him. I encourage everyone to come to Hanmaum church with an expectation and hope to see what God is doing in all.
